A Day at the Beach

Not many waves today
but that did not deter the surfers

plenty of people on the boardwalk
strolling, walking, watching

the sand was extra fine
the ocean was a sea of glass

the sunshine multiplied
under the cerulean blue sky
and welcomed me home

when I gazed out my window
to witness the white clouds
behind the pink dogwood

that let me take a peek
while they watched me enjoy
this wonderful mother's day

thank you for letting me be your mom
and your grandmother

To cast a stone
through clear streamed water

to the bottom where
it will gather moss
or churn in a current

is the stone that may rumble
through the underwater
highway

and rest or be rested upon
by another
or a perhaps a salmon

swimming upstream
to spawn
on yet another

and the stone will carry
with it
the story of its
life

with or without the sun

with or without the current

with or without the hand
that began its journey

Are you ready for spring?

Let's just enjoy the sun
and wait for summer.

Forget the cold once and for all
Forget the snow once and for all

I need to wear a light jacket

I am happy the sun is still up at 7
Let's push for 8
then 9

and keep it there

No more snow until never

I am ready to live in sun and warmth every day

Blanket of Snow

Today, we bury the past
under a blanket of snow

What better way to leave this earth
than to close your eyes in the sun

and three days later
walk in the snow with God.

Your hand will be held forever
by the woman you lived for and
who lived for you.

Your days on this earth are marked
forever in time
in the spirit of those you have left
in your wake

They will carry on your legacy
in the snow, the rain and the sun

and laugh all the way to the next
wave that will carry them safely to shore.

Sun is shining
People abound
as I head southbound

to see Alana
who will share her journey
of her summit
to the top of Kilimanjaro

and the African safari
that began her trip
which is a sharp contrast
to the broken train I am on

No snow here

Orchids

The sun is shining
The snow is soft and plentiful.
I am skiing
among
sweeping slopes that are lined with
magenta orchids.


They
guide me to
a Japanese lake
in spring where I will sit
under a pergola
and listen to the nearby stream
roll over moss fed stones

Follow the Sun and Leave the Rain Behind

If rain were cold,

it would be snow;

if snow was frozen,

it would be ice.

I like the sun

and the lack of snow


that bring me to you

Winter Travel

Winter travel is different for some


On this gloriously warm morning,


I ascended into the air just before sunrise


to find myself 3 hours later


landing amidst a snow storm


on a blanket of warmth on the runway

Sunshine

Sunshine awaits me


at dawn


I better hurry to catch a glimpse


before the tide returns


naked birds


cameos against the cotton ball clowds


amass the cerulean sky


I bid good day

I Wish it Would Snow

Walking to work in the snow is much nicer than walking on a sheet of ice.


I think I will wait for the next snowfall


before I trod the mile


or buy a pair of ice skates
